One of the most beautiful and unusual Scottish pebble brooches we have ever offered. This brooch is oval shaped with an open center and spoked with alternating stripes of malachite and petrified dinosaur bone. The colors and textures are incredible. The vibrant, verdant malachite looks like bubbling fractals of striated green. The dinosaur bone resembles black and gray dragon scales. This brooch is framed in sterling silver, backed with Scottish slate, and finished with the pin and c-clasp common to this era. Circa 1860.
Scottish pebble jewelry is one of our favorite categories of Victorian jewels. It evokes the image of Queen Victoria and her love of Scotland and all things Scottish. Once the fashionable English ladies see their lovely young Queen wearing her Scottish jewels, Scottish pebble jewels become all the rage and continue to be worn throughout Victoria's reign.
Details.....The brooch measures 2.5" by 1.8". In Very Good Antique Condition. You should always expect some wear on antique and vintage jewels; we consider it part of their charm.
